The Vain Chicken

Our chickens, being very vain indeed.
Whenever I finish a big task, like editing a photo shoot or getting the house clean for the billionth time, I like to celebrate and unwind.  One of my favorite things to do is to go out and take pictures, just for fun.

Today, I went outside to take pictures on my cell phone for Instagram's weekend hashtag project.  Instagram is an app that allows you to edit and share your cell phone pictures.  Each weekend, they announce a photo challenge, and this week it was "Behind the lens."

I decided that since I don't have a timer on my phone camera, I'd just take a mirror out in the pasture and snap away.  I took the chicken scrap bucket with me to attract our lovely Buff Orpington chickens, and had a field day...literally.  You can see the Instagram pictures if you look up my profile: Barefootmommy1120.

I was surprised to see the chickens actually appeared to be looking at themselves in the mirror.  I really had thought they must be pretty dense, considering they repeatedly go into places where our dog koa can eat them.  I'm sure they figured they were just looking at other chickens and were merely contemplating whether to peck them in the eye.

For my self portrait, I posed myself with trees in the background, though it would have been great to have the exact same scene behind me as what was in front !  I waited and waited for chickens to come around the corner after having a chicken snack, then made it appear as if I might be the next snack.  It was great fun!

What do you like to do to celebrate after a hard project is completed?

That's me, contemplating the world and all that stuff.
